Quote of the Week (14)

For this week’s quote of the week, I thought I would add in a couple more than usual. And…uh oh…they aren’t about writing. Time to have a little fun I say and break away from the norm.

Random Time! (With a little helpful link)

I thought it would be time for a little random fun…and a helpful little link I stumbled upon the other day. First, here’s a picture.

Ok now that the randomness is out of the way, I thought I would share a helpful link I found the other day. I’m sure everyone has heard of R.L. Stine and Goosebumps. On his website, he shared a great teaching guide for writing. So, if you happen to teach writing (or just want to learn a few tricks yourself) it’s worth checking out.

And that’s all for today folks!

A Little Bit of Crazy Fun

Last time I posted something in the random category, it was about the crazy Amy’s Bakery fiasco. In the same line, today I have another crazy woman. Before we go any further I want to give everyone a quick warning: THERE IS RACISTS CONTENT HERE. I DO NOT APPROVE OF OR CONDONE WHAT SHE IS SAYING. With that being said, which of the two crazy women are worse? Watch the video and let me know what you think (I think they are in a dead heat).

Totally Random, but Fun!

Today, I wanted to do something completely random (and maybe you will find it a little fun too). If anyone follows the latest internet drama, you’ll know about the Amy’s Bakery fiasco. If you don’t, that’s what this post will be about. I really don’t have any words for this, I can’t say whether it is staged or not, but wow. First, the Kitchen Nightmares show.

And now you are probably wide eyed and shaking your head. Let’s see if your eye sockets and neck can take this.

Sometimes, even I don’t have words to put down on paper. Not for this.

And After a Short Break…

Ahhhh breaks…they are so nice.

Unknown

But, this time, I do have a valid excuse for my short absence. This past weekend I was in Madison, Wisconsin for the Wisconsin Writer’s Institute writing conference. It was a fun trip and an even better conference! There were numerous panel discussions, workshop events, contests, critique groups, and agent/editor pitches. I could go on and one, but I think I’ll leave it there and just say that if anyone is interested in writing, whether seriously or just for fun, I think you would enjoy this event. I’ll be back soon with more posts (oh, the horror!). And for anyone interested in next year’s conference, check out the website link (which may not be update for next year yet, but you can get an idea at least): http://continuingstudies.wisc.edu/LSA/writing/awi/

It’s the Little Things

Driving has shown me something. I had a sort of epiphany while clutching my wheel and cursing at the stupid person trying to u-turn into oncoming traffic. And this doesn’t just have to do with driving and traffic and road rage, though it does involve those things. This is simple: we only spot the bad.

Think about it this way. How many times have you been driving and have had a small fit of road rage because someone cut you off or was driving ten under the speed limit or forgot to use a signal and slammed on the breaks to make a turn? I’m sure it has happened to all of us. We focus in on that person and that is all we see.

But what about all the good? What about everyone else, those people driving around you, that are doing everything right? Do they get any credit? Of course not. All we see is the bad. Take a look at the news. The first twenty minutes is talking about who was murdered, what was stolen, what bad thing happened. The good? That’s forgotten or pushed aside for the last five minutes. It seems we are drawn to the bad. But maybe, just maybe if we realize this, we can break the cycle. It might just start with the little things, just realizing that it isn’t all so bad. We can start looking at the good instead of the bad, even if it is just when we are driving. Hell, I don’t know if it is possible to overcome this cycle, but it doesn’t seem like a bad idea.

Will we get back into writing next post? The world may never know (but probably).
